Workers at Wedderburn have decided that enough is enough. Late last year, the hard-working field service technicians at the Thomastown scales company were getting sick of the lack of action on conditions and pay. So they decided to act.

Mechanical fitters in Dandenong are celebrating the end of a long-running dispute with Aspen Pharmacare. AMWU members voted up a new agreement on Friday 17 July, which ended a 10-day picket line and 18-month negotiation period with the company. AMWU members celebrate their big win!

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union is calling on Nissan to redeploy all workers affected by the recent announcement that their Dandenong parts warehouse will close in October. The AMWU and union shop stewards at Nissan have slammed the company for the sudden announcement, which comes less than three months after Nissan announced that it would continue manufacturing parts for Nissan cars “well beyond 2020.” Nissan workers protest the outsourcing of their jobs to casual labour

The Victorian Building Authority has determined that individual construction workers are solely liable for compliance of building works with permits issued to their employer, contractor or builder. The conviction of subcontractor Johnathan Westmoreland over the Swanston Street wall collapse that killed three young people will have ramifications for the entire construction industry, the Building Industry Group (BIG) of unions has warned.

AMWU members have been doing all they can to help their union mate Damian Ferguson beat cancer. Damian’s workmates on the Inpex Ichthys Offshore Oil and Gas Project, off the coast of north-west Australia have been taking up a collection to assist with the research and treatment of Damian’s brain tumour, which was diagnosed two years ago. Through the generosity of AMWU and other union members working on the project organised by West Australian Organiser Glenn McLaren, Damian’s workmates have raised over $70,000 to help with his medical expenses.
