JULY 30, 2020 – The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) has condemned print and packaging company Ovato for their announcement that they have applied to cut workers’ pay and conditions. The AMWU has been working with Ovato since March to negotiate reduced working arrangements because of the impact of COVID-19 on the business, but the company yesterday notified the union that they had made an application to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) to terminate the agreement currently covering the majority of the Ovato workforce.

MARCH 23, 2020 – AMWU National Assistant Secretary Glenn Thompson: "The AMWU is calling on Qantas to urgently bring forward scheduled aircraft maintenance to mitigate the effects of the stand-down. Qantas can use this down time to get ahead of their maintenance schedule and keep their workers gainfully employed. The longer workers can continue doing their jobs before being stood down, the better. Every day makes a difference. Bringing forward work that has to be done eventually is a smart way for Qantas to support its workforce.

FEBRUARY 17, 2020 – The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) condemned the lack of Government support for Australian manufacturing that led to today’s announcement of the retirement of iconic Australian brand, Holden. “Today’s announcement that the Holden brand will be retired at the end of 2020 is a tragic end to over 100 years of Australian car history. The Liberal Government should hang their heads in shame for watching over the demise of our car manufacturing industry”, said AMWU National Assistant Secretary, David Smith.
