VTHC Health and Safety Reps Conference 2015 - register now!

Tuesday 27 October, 8.30am - 4pm @ Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, South Wharf

Conference topics include:

• How to raise and resolve OHS issues in your workplace – practical strategies and advice

• OHS indicators for workplaces

• Risks to psychological health (including bullying and stress)

Meet other HSRs, skill up and learn how to advocate for safer worksites.

Instructions to HSRs wishing to attend the Conference:

Step 1: Register with the AMWU

Step 2: Tell your employer

Notify your employer that you wish to attend the WorkSafe HSR Conference. You need to give at least 14 days notice.

If you have a problem and your employer:

- Refuses to release you

- Puts pressure on you not to go

- Attempts to delay formal confirmation of your release

Notify the AMWU immediately on 9230 5700


Conference Information

When

Tuesday 27th October, 2015.

Registration from 8am for a 9am start. Finish at 4.10pm

Location

Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre: 1 Convention Centre Place, South Wharf, Melbourne

Parking

Undercover parking is available in the Melbourne Exhibition Centre basement car park, entry via Normanby Street. Early bird rate, before 9am is $16. Exit car park via Door 6 to take you to the concourse entry to the Convention Centre.

Public Transport

Walk from Southern Cross Station or Flinders Street Station (approx. 15 minutes)

Trams run along Spencer, Clarendon and Flinders Streets every 6-8 minutes during peak times. The closest tram stop is directly outside the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Travel for Regional and Rural HSRs

Regional HSRs can:

- Negotiate with their employer to provide a bus or car to drive to the Conference as a group

- Travel by train

You will need to negotiate payment for travel as Section 69 of the OHS Act does not place an obligation on the employer to pay. If your employer refuses to provide or assist with your travel costs, please let us know.

 The Conference program has been approved by WorkSafe under section s69 (1)(d)(ii) of the OHS Act.

An employer must allow HSRs time off with pay to attend on the day. 

HSRs must give the employer at least 14 days’ notice. 

Deputy HSRs do not have an entitlement under this provision, however they can make alternative arrangements with their employer to attend.
