Weekends matter, and the people who work on weekends are sacrificing time with their family and friends. Any change to weekend penalty rates is a pay cut they can’t afford and don’t deserve.
This election, the choice is clear: the Liberal party, and their mates in big business, want to cut Sunday penalty rates for retail and hospitality workers. If they go, it will be the beginning of the end for everyone’s weekend rates.
That’s why the AMWU is taking that message to the voters who will decide this election. On June 18, we’ll be talking to voters in Banks and Barton about what their vote means for the future of our weekend.
We’ll be kicking off at 10:30 am with a breakfast barbecue and a briefing from the Save Our Weekends campaign.
