Labour Day Celebrations 2017

The first week in May will see celebrations across Australia for Labour Day.

The AMWU urges you to come along and celebrate the great achievements of working people and unions over more than a century. Bring your family and join with other AMWU members for a great day.

There will be free food, drink, entertainment and at some locations, even rides for the kids. Look below to find out where the celebrations start in your area:

BRISBANE – Monday, 1 May
March will commence on the corner of Wharf and Turbot Streets, Spring Hill at 10am and finish for a day-long free festival at the Brisbane Showgrounds – with drinks, food, music, events and rides courtesy of your union.

BLACKWATER – Monday, 1 May
Assemble on the corner of Mackenzie Street and Littlefield Street at 8am on Monday, May 1 for a 9am start. Entertainment will be held next to the PCYC Blackwater on both Sunday and Monday.
 
BUNDABERG – Saturday, 29 April
Assemble at the Young Aussie Hotel (59 Perry Street, North Bundaberg) at 9:00am. The march will commence at 9:30am and finish for a Family Fun Day at the Anzac Park (Quay Street) Bundaberg – with drinks, food, music, events and rides courtesy of your union.

CAIRNS – Saturday, 29 April
Assemble at 3pm for a 4pm march from Fogarty Park Soundshell, returning to the park for a family fun afternoon. At the family fun day there will be a band, jumping castle, cash bar and food (for sale) and even a clown for the kids.

DARWIN - Monday, 1 May
Assemble at 3:30pm for a 4pm march from 38 Woods St, Darwin to Bicentennial Park, The Esplanade for a family picnic and entertainment. 
 
GLADSTONE – Monday, 1 May
The march will commence on at the Council Car Park on Central Lane (behind the Council chambers) at 10am, and finish for a Family Fun Day at the Gladstone Marina Parklands – with drinks, food, music, tug-of-war courtesy of your union.

GOLD COAST – Sunday, 30 April
Assemble at 9.45am with a 10.30am start to march from the Southport Workers’ Club, 154A Scarborough Street, Southport, to the Southport Broadwater Parklands “Great Lawn”. There will be a live band, drinks, sausage sizzle and jumping castles and face painting for the kids.

IPSWICH – Saturday, 29 April
The march will commence on the corner of Ellensborough and Darling Streets, (Assemble from 10:30am for an 11am start to the march)  and will end for food and drinks at the Ipswich City Mall, Brisbane Street, Ipswich.

MACKAY – Monday, 1 May
Assemble at the corner of River and Gregory Streets for the march will start from 9:45am and will finish at 10:30am at Queens Park, Goldsmith Street, Mackay for Free Ice Creams, plus food and drinks for sale.

MARYBOROUGH – Sunday, 30 April
Assemble at the Waterside Workers Union Hall – Wharf Street at 9:30 am for the 10am March to the Maryborough Services Memorial Bowls Club, Lennox Street for a Family Fun Day.

MORANBAH – Monday, 1 May
Assemble at Tallon Street at the Mills Avenue End at 10am for a 10:30am end and finish at Ted Rolfe Oval. There will be food and drinks for sale, plus rides, a skate competition, street parade, races, and a tug-of-war.

ROCKHAMPTON – Monday, 1 May
Assemble at 8:30am at the Riverside Carpark on Archer Street for a 9am start to the march to Victoria Park at Huish Drive for a family fun day with drinks, food and entertainment.

SUNSHINE COAST – Sunday, 30 April
Family Fun Day will be held at Cotton Tree Park, The Esplanade, Cotton Tree from 10am.

TOOWOOMBA – Saturday, 29 April
Assembling at 10.30am on Saturday, April 29 at the Railway Carpark on the corner of Russell and Railway streets (Opposite the Irish Club), this year’s march will commence at 11am sharp. After the march there will be a family fun day with a jumping castle, a bucking bull, live music, BBQ lunch and drinks at the Irish Club.
 
TOWNSVILLE, Monday, 1 May
Assemble at 10am at Anzac Park, and march from 10:30am to the Strand Park for a fun day of drinks, food and entertainment.
