Delivering a Skilled Workforce for Victoria’s Electric Buses
Funded by the Victorian State Government and working collaboratively with a TAFE provider and the bus industry, the AMWU forges an innovative pilot project to upskill the technical (and non-technical) support workforce with the oncoming electrification of Victoria’s buses.
By identifying the capabilities needed to work with EV buses, the project maps, researches, develops, and refines an accredited training program that supports productivity and employability.
Thus, the project up-skills currently skilled mechanics to work in the transport support EV industry and serves as a prototype for future electrical buses and heavy vehicles training.
OBJECTIVES
- Identify, using occupational profiles, the key capabilities required for the transport support services electric vehicles workforce.
- Develop, trial, evaluate, refine, and gain accreditation for training that enhances the knowledge, qualifications, skills, and capabilities of workers for jobs in the transport support services electric vehicles industry.
- Support industry modernization and encourage workers to upskill and help to support business productivity and worker employability.
- Deliver training that is flexible and responsive to industry needs and increases capability in the transport support services workforce.
SCOPE
The project targets Victoria’s bus transport and maintenance service workers in the Electric Vehicle (EV) Bus industry. |
Organisations and industry associations operating in this space are prioritised as project partners. |
It is anticipated that the accredited training course developed will be transferable, not only from bus to other heavy vehicles, but also to light and passenger vehicles. |
