AMWU NSW & ACT Endorses the School Strike 4 Climate

The AMWU is passionate about fighting for good local jobs, healthy and prosperous communities, and a decent future for our kids.

This is why the union is endorsing the School Strike 4 Climate movement – supporting the next generation of union activists to fight for a fair and sustainable future.

The AMWU supports their demands for the Morrison Government to invest in job creation and new energy projects, instead of handing public money to their big business mates in the gas industry.

We believe the fight for good, sustainable jobs is core union business. Union members know that big changes are coming. New technology and investment decisions will transform how we produce electricity and impact jobs in mining and energy industries.

The AMWU is fighting to ensure workers are front and centre in how we respond to these changes. We will be encouraging our members and officials to attend the May 21 marches.

Quotes attributable to NSW & ACT State Secretary Cory Wright

The AMWU knows that workers need a plan for the changes that are coming to our mining and power generation industries. That’s why we’ve formed alliances with other unions and community groups through the Hunter Jobs Alliance.”

“Workers must have a voice in any discussions and planning for a more sustainable future.”

“Government can’t leave our kids’ futures in the hands of big corporations. We need to create a plan that includes access to good jobs, skills and training, and real support for affected workers.”
