AMWU demands BHP put local jobs first on South Flank project

The AMWU has written an open letter to BHP Biliton CEO Andrew Mackenzie seeking answers, after it came to light that BHP plans to send 20,000 tonnes of structural steel work offshore as part of upgrades to its South Flank Iron Ore Project.

We know that that 20,000 tonnes of steel equates to 2,000 manufacturing jobs, with additional jobs filtering through to WA's manufacturing industry in Kwinana.
