Visy management has released a new drug and alcohol policy for all sites nationally. Unlike the previous drug and alcohol policy, this policy was not produced in consultation with Visy employees or their union.
We believe that having a drug and alcohol policy is important, however we have concerns that the proposed policy is more concerned with management control than safety onsite.
We have three main concerns with the proposed policy:
- This new policy will replace independent testing with testing done by management and supervisors
- The new policy does not protect the privacy of Visy workers, especially around prescription medication
- The new policy replaces a three strikes policy with only one strike
