National Communications Officer (Media and Publications)

An exciting opportunity is available for a media professional who is passionate about workers’ rights and progressive political issues.

The position is based in Melbourne as part of the National Communications Team.

Key responsibilities:

• Research and write articles and feature stories for the union’s website, and the quarterly national magazine.
• Write press releases, develop networks with journalists, and organise media coverage of the union’s campaigns and events.
• Assist with other communication tasks as required.

Selection criteria:

• Experience in public relations or journalism.
• Demonstrated writing ability.
• Ability to understand and explain issues to a general audience.
• Commitment to the union movement/progressive political causes.
• Qualified or working towards a communications degree or equivalent.

Additional qualities that will assist a candidate:

• Experience in community campaigning/union organising.
• Knowledge of social media technology/interest in new technology .
• Interest in photography.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.

Conditions:

Starting salary is $53 710 + 10% super, with regular performance reviews and opportunities to advance.

The officer will be provided with a MacBook, iPhone, and mobile internet access. Some travel will be required and travel allowances are paid.
