The AMWU’s website www.skillsregister.com.au could help workers in WA take on an employer blacklist, which has seen workers miss out on employment because of their union activity.
AMWU WA Secretary, Steve McCartney welcomed the launch of the register at the state delegates forum in WA this week.
“The skills register website will be used to prevent employers using 457 visas where we know there are locals wanting work. I think it will also be effective in proving that active unionists are being overlooked when there is work available.”
The skills register website allows anyone within the AMWU’s coverage to register as looking for work or seeking an apprenticeship or cadetship.
