Twenty-seven AMWU members at National Foods in Morwell, whose jobs were outsourced, have voted to accept a redundancy package after negotiating significant improvements.
As previously reported, the workers were stood down on ‘special leave’ after the company did not meet an obligation to consult on changes to employment, and asked workers to collect their tools and leave two weeks ago.
The workers held a community-supported protest to defend their jobs, but have now voted to accept an enhanced redundancy package.
AMWU organiser, Steve Dodd, described the situation as dissapointing, but said that the enhanced package had been enough to allow the workers to move on.
