140 workers from Paragon Printing Ltd, owed up to $10 million of entitlements, will attend a meeting of creditors in Albury–Wodonga today.
Workers were left in limbo when the company was put into administration two weeks ago.
The workers will arrive by bus for a 10:30 meeting before the creditors meeting begins at 11am.
AMWU Victorian Secretary, Steve Dargavel, said the union was concerned that the company had been stripped of assets in order to avoid paying the workers’ entitlements, especially as the director, Amir Hyster, left the country immediately after PPL was placed in administration.
“We know from past situations, such as at Drivetrain Systems in Albury only a year ago, that workers are often forced to rely on the Federal Government’s GEERS system, which does not cover all of a workers’ entitlements or superannuation.
“It is morally corrupt to for a director to deliberately create a situation where a company cannot pay its workers the money it owes them.”
The AMWU has been campaigning for a national system that protects workers entitlements in full and holds company directors to account for their legal obligations to employees.
The creditors meeting will take place at the Crossing Place Conference Centre
Lake Hume Resort, Riverina Hwy, Albury.
