Plan for WA Jobs

Western Australians need a Plan for WA Jobs!

WhatstheplanColin_ISO.pngPlan for WA Jobs is a community campaign that is seeking the development and implementation of a plan to drive economic and employment growth in Western Australia.

As the resources construction boom slows down, Western Australia will need to make the most of the opportunities we have in mining and petroleum, as well as develop other industries to create jobs for the future.

While it was some years ago, many of us remember Perth before the mining boom.  Not a lot was going on.  It is not in the interests of current and future generations for WA to return to this sleepy past.  With proper planning and a proactive government, we won't have to.

A Plan for WA Jobs needs to ensure that we have competitively priced energy to drive manufacturing growth, and that we have the skilled local workers that industry will need into the future.  It will need to make the most of the opportunities we have now, and create new opportunities for the future.

Colin Barnett has no plan and wants us to pay the price

Colin Barnett has shown nothing to indicate that he has a plan for job creation in Western Australia.  He crosses his fingers and hopes that resources projects will get over the line, but his record is questionable, with projects like Oakajee and Browse destined never to be built in Western Australia.  For those projects that have gone ahead during his time in office, he has shrugged his shoulders as most of the work has headed offshore.  He has also stood idly by, while big companies have brought in overseas workers, despite there being plenty of trained and experienced workers in Australia.

Now, with his attention focused on his big inner city projects, we see no evidence of a plan to ensure local businesses and workers benefit from these developments.  For all we know, the contracts will go the same way as Gorgon's, and head overseas.

Get involved!

Over the next few months, we will outline our plan to create jobs in Western Australia. The State Government is asleep at the wheel, but we are giving this a lot of thought.
