Australia's manufacturing industry provides well paid and rewarding jobs for Australian workers and is vital to our country's long term economic security and prosperity. The AMWU is campaigning to make sure our politicians and business leaders make investments to build our manufacturing industry.

Our manufacturing industry has been crippled by the policies of the previous Howard Government, including free trade agreements that have hurt Australian manufacturing and sent Australian jobs overseas. This website explains the important role that manufacturing plays and how you can help campaign to support Australia's manufacturing future.

Research shows that Australia needs to improve its manufacturing policies or face continued decline. I call on you to support the AMWU's call for a recurring $1 billion policy package (additional to current funding) consisting of: $300 million investment allowance to help manufacturers update their capital equipment; $300 million research and development assistance scheme to drive innovation; $225 million increase in support for export market development; $75 million program to help benchmark manufacturers and encourage them to adopt world�s best practice and technologies; $50 million incentive program to attract foreign investment into small and medium sized manufacturing businesses; and $50 million strategy to attract and train highly skilled labour for the application of advanced manufacturing technologies.
