your rights at work

The Howard Government's radical industrial relations agenda hurt the quality of life of millions of Australians. Together, working people and the trade union movement ran a national campaign against the laws which led to defeat of the Howard Government at the 2007 federal election.

Now, with a Rudd Labor Government elected on the promise of restoring workers' rights, our campaign is focussing on ensuring that these new laws offer workers real protection and strong democratic  bargaining rights.

The AMWU and all other unions are campaigning with community support to ensure that our rights at work are never attacked again. This campaign site will help you learn more about how you can get involved.

Australians deserve the right to have a say in their terms of employment. If workers want, and vote for, a collective agreement, that decision should be respected. If workers want to be represented by their union, they should have that right. I support the ACTU position on democratic bargaining, and call on the Rudd Labor Government to enshrine this right in law.
